There were 380 supporters in attendance at the 15th annual Renaissance Ball. The black-tie gala was held in the ballroom of the Embassy Suites in Independence.
The Renaissance Ball supports the mission of the Parma Hospital Health Care Foundation which is devoted to improving the health and well being of the community it serves. Both the foundation chairperson, Dr. James Rambasek, and Parma Hospital president and CEO Patricia Ruflin spoke with passion about the needs of their community.
Christine George, a trustee of the foundation, was the event chairperson. The evening’s Japanese theme was reflected in the invitation and throughout the event. Mrs. George and her committee, with the assistance of Empire Designs, did a masterful job of creating a lovely Japanese-inspired party. Red paper lanterns cast a warm glow over the room. There were several tanks of koi fish to amuse guests. Exquisite ikebana-style centerpieces graced the dinner tables, and fine chopsticks were pre-set at each seat. Servers were dressed as geishas.
The menu was in keeping with the theme and creatively prepared by the hotel’s own kitchen. The first course featured a red chili and soba noodle salad followed by an intermezzo of green tea sorbet. The main course was composed of grilled sirloin of beef with garlic teriyaki reduction coupled with sea bass in a ginger emulsion and accompanied by wasabi mashed potatoes. The meal was topped off by a ginger and lychee nut cheese cake. An after-dinner café was set up with specialty coffees, teas and assorted sweets.
Dancing to the music of the Jerry Bruno Orchestra concluded the evening, which raised $65,000. STORY BY CAROLINE R. MERK/PHOTOGRAPHS BY ROBERT MULLER
