A Night for the Red & White was the 21st annual “black-tie block party” to benefit the Shaker Heights City Schools, presented by the Friends of the Shaker Schools Foundation. Marisa Matero-Maury and Irene Meyerhoefer served as co-chairs of the event that drew more than 750 loyal supporters to the Tudor Arms Hotel.
The best part of the evening was the non-stop student entertainment from Shaker Heights High School. The terrific Jazz Ensemble and Combo played in the Tudor Ballroom as guests arrived. They were followed by the men’s A’Cappella Ensemble; the women’s show choir, Chanticleers; and performances by the Senior Acting Ensemble.
An extensive and interesting silent auction was set up in the Tudor Ballroom. Dining was informal, with a buffet-style supper available from 7-10 p.m., and ample seating throughout the hotel’s second floor. Desserts and a coffee bar were open until the end of the night. Guests crowded the dance floor in the Crystal Ballroom to the music of Shout!
A Night for the Red & White raised approximately $100,000, according to Christine Auginas, executive director of the Shaker Schools Foundation. Since 1992, more than $2 million has been raised from this event. STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY CAROLINE R. MERK
