While brides take center stage on their wedding day without a doubt, it is also mom’s day to shine.

Mothers play a huge role on their daughter or son’s big day and fashions speak to that fact. They are unique and striking and help mom stand out and have that special spot during the big event.

Matina’s at Eton Chagrin Boulevard offers a variety of colors and styles to mothers of the bride or bridegroom.

The style of wedding dictates their choices, according to Matina’s, with many brides opting for destination weddings and donning long, flowy dresses. Mothers are sometimes going short as a result, and are not dressing as formally in that type of scenario.

Then there are black tie weddings where mothers are opting for full-length formal gowns.

Although a majority of selections are available in a variety of colors at Matina’s, many can be specially ordered. Lines include Frascara, Robert Bullock, Daymor Couture, Mon Cheri by Montage and Rose Taft, to name a few.

Matina’s requires appointments and also will hold a Mon Cheri trunk show Jan. 16-19 during regular business hours. January is Mother’s Month, with special incentives offered on wedding purchases made during the month by mothers.

Matina’s offers the reminder, taken from Emily Post, stipulating that mothers of the bride pick their dress first. If the mother of the bride selects a short dress, the mother of the bridegroom must wear short. But if the mother of the bride picks a long dress or gown, then the mother of the bridegroom can pick long or short.

Mothers should give themselves about six months lead time in order to allow ample time for alterations, if needed. It is also important to special order as opposed to picking off the rack so that there is never the risk that a wedding guest could be wearing the same dress. Mothers are hosting the event, and want to avoid being confused for a guest.

Other trends for mothers of the bride include:

The color champagne – it is truly the “hot” color and transcends seasons

Dressing lightly in soft fabrics like chiffon or micro crape

Lace accents

Short suits – always a great choice for mothers that can be enhanced with a fabulous hat or broach.
