March of Dimes
“Signature Chefs Auction”

There were delicate crab cakes with corn relish by Don’s Lighthouse, slow-cooked beef short ribs chili by Melange, truffle seared-veal tenderloin by Bucci’s and bread pudding with whisky butter by Great Lakes Brewing Co. And, that was just the beginning at the Signature Chefs Auction for the March of Dimes, which took the cake for having the best restaurants in town giving it their all.
The 19th annual event, held at Embassy Suites Cleveland Rockside, drew 460 guests and raised about $100,000 for the organization. Presenting sponsors were Sysco, Time Warner Cable and Fox 8.
Honorary medical co-chairmen were Dr. Avroy Fanaroff, an international authority in the field of neonatology, and his son, Dr. Johnathan Fanaroff, associate medical director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.
Honorary chefs were Jonathon and Amelia Sawyer, whose restaurant, the Greenhouse Tavern, evokes the ‘farm to plate movement,’ and was named one of the top 10 best new restaurants in America by Bon Appetit magazine.
There were long tables filled with more than 100 silent auction items and a live auction featuring a trip to Belize, a Breckenridge, Colo. getaway, and packages for die-hard sports fans and seats at opening night of “Grease.”
Proceeds will bring the March of Dimes closer to ensuring all babies are born healthy and reducing the incidence of premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality, according to co-chairwomen Sarah Donnersbach and Gina Morris. STORY BY SALI McSHERRY/PHOTOGRAPHS BY JOHN BASHIAN
