Summa Health “Sapphire Ball”

The 2017 Summa Health Sapphire Ball was filled with firsts. The October 21 event at the John S. Knight Center – the 16th annual – raised $1.3 million for the first time in its illustrious history.  Those dollars, when coupled with all the money previously amassed over the years, pushed the total raised in 16 years to more than $10 million, another first for the health system.

“The record is nice, but the important thing is that this generosity is going to make a huge difference in the lives of Summa Health patients,” said Rennick Andreoli, who along with his wife, Dee, served as chairs for this year’s Sapphire Ball. “We were proud to work with Summa Health to put on a first-class event and raise such an amazing amount for the Dr. Gary B. and Pamela S. Williams Center for Breast Health and the important work being done by its physicians and staff.”

This year’s Sapphire Ball, which helped commemorate Summa Health’s 125th anniversary, benefited the Summa Health Williams Breast Center and other key clinical areas throughout the health system. Besides the Andreolis serving as event chairs, Melanie Lynch, M.D., and Gilbert Padula, M.D., were physician chairs, and Sandy and Tony Solaro headed a corporate committee that included 20 Akron-area business and community leaders.

Since its inception in 2001, the Summa Health Sapphire Ball has raised awareness and, now, more than $10 million in community support to benefit health system improvements and programs that ensure better health for the community, including women’s health, hospice and palliative care and the Summa Health Equity Center.

The event was presented by Donley’s/Shook. Diamond sponsors were Huntington Bank and RDA Hotel Management. Ruby Sponsors were Regina and Robert B. Cooper and Milton Cooper, Sandy and Cliff Deveny, The Lehner Family Foundation, The Pattie Group, and Sandy and Tony Solaro. Saber Healthcare sponsored the event’s Young Professionals Lounge.
