“Severance Celebration”

Resplendent was the word for Severance Celebration, an elegant evening for Cleveland’s jewel and the home of its beneficiary The Cleveland Orchestra.
Norma Lerner was the chairman of the gala attended by some 400 guests who followed a red carpet up the main entrance stairs into the Grand Foyer where they had cocktails and hors d’oeuvres prior to a trumpet summons to dinner. The concert hall, its stage extended over rows of the main floor seats for dinner seating, was breathtakingly beautiful, its design concept created by DK Vanderbrook Florist. Awash with rosy lighting nearly as vibrant as the lush profusion of peonies for the centerpieces, all of the round and rectangular dinner tables were mirrored, reflecting the exquisite pattern of the ceiling high above. The three-course dinner, featuring tarte au saumon and pain de veau, was prepared and served by Elan Catering.
Special guests trumpeter Dominick Farinacci, percussionist Jamey Haddad and conductor/arranger Richard DeRosa along with members of The Cleveland Orchestra, performed an outstanding program of selected works by Dvorak, Puccini, Piazzolla, Bonfa/Maria, Gershwin and Bernstein. Afterwards the Evelyn Wright Quartet provided musical entertainment at the Piano Bar Afterglow in the Grand Foyer.
Cleveland Orchestra CEO Gary Hanson announced that more than $600,000 had been raised in support of the orchestra’s music initiatives in the community. STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY KATHRYN RIDDLE
