Five young women and four gentlemen were presented at the 50th anniversary debutante ball hosted by The Cotillion Society of Cleveland at The Country Club in Pepper Pike.

Ball chairmen were Coll

een Abdalian and Kathleen Flocken whose daughters were among the debutantes. Dr. Robert William Hostoffer, serving as master of ceremonies, spoke briefly about The Cotillion Society’s purpose as a family-oriented organization that, in addition to sponsoring etiquette classes and social activities and encouraging charitable community projects for members’ daughters and sons, funds scholarships for area college-bound students. Then Dr. Hostoffer introduced gentleman Michael Peter Curtin, followed by the other three gentlemen in absentia, prior to the formal presentation.

Harpist Cynthia Lally and flautist Kathleen Mylecraine began playing as each of the debutantes was announced individually before descending the staircase alone. In addition to wearing the Cotillion’s signature gold locket, all the young women wore rhinestone tiaras as a special adornment for the 50th anniversary. Carrying bouquets of pale pink and fuchsia roses, alstromeria and white hydrangeas, the debutantes were then escorted by their fathers in a promenade to the living room for the receiving line. A cocktail reception on the terrace preceded the traditional father-daughter, mother-son first dance, a waltz to music by Ms. Lally, Ms

. Mylecraine, violinist Allison Lint and cellist Dan Hild. Music for the ball later was by The Rockin’ Ravers.

Inspired by the debutante balls in the past, Frank Feysa of Garden Gate repeated flowers chosen for the debutantes’ bouquets in arrangements throughout the club. Centerpieces on the dinner tables, covered in either gold-ribboned or gold and white embroidered organza, included rose-filled crystal trumpet vases, wreaths and trios of bouquets. Subtle touches of gold were used in honor of the 50th year celebration.

The debutantes and their parents were: Sarah Bridget Abdalian, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Michael Abdalian; Margaret Elizabeth Dick, Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Eric Dick; Monica Rose Flocken, Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Michael Flocken; Jacqueline Nicole Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Uwe Thomas Schmidt; and Natalie Lauren Wynveen, Mrs. Barbara Booth Wynveen and Mr. Bradley Allen Wynveen.

The gentlemen and their parents were: Michael Peter Curtin, Mr. and Mrs. G. Micha

el Curtin; William Richard Huesken, Mr. and Mrs. Richard John Huesken; Jeffrey Charles Hurt, Jr., Ms. Mary Elizabeth Hurt and Mr. Jeffrey Charles Hurt; and Bradley Scott Merk, Mr. and Mrs. William Scott Merk.
