Some of the best things afoot at The Ohio College Podiatric Medicine (OCPM) are scholarships granted to students needing help to earn their degree. And what better way to fund them than with a gala event that also honors those who have made significant contributions to the field of podiatric medicine?
This year’s “Glass Slipper Fete” and Hall of Fame Society induction ceremony had a new, more spacious location at the Embassy Suites in Independence, just a quick walk from the college’s elegant campus. The 300 guests were greeted by Event Chair Donna Bloom-Schwartz and Hall of Fame Chair Kelly Whaley and given the opportunity to congratulate the evening’s honorees and their families: Dr. Jeffrey Robbins, accompanied by his mother Greta, and Jim Conforti and Darrel Darby representing their fathers, the late Dr. James A. Conforti and Dr. H. Darrel Darby, respectively. Then it was off to inspect the silent auction items, have a turn on a Nintendo Wii that was part of the bounty and get a heads up on the live auction items offered later in the evening. Back again this year: Lucky Jewelers from the Virgin Islands, offering a breathtaking display of sparkling gemstone and diamond jewelry for sale.
Kelly Bumpus, a current OCPM student, spoke of the importance of the scholarship she is now receiving, “the only way possible to achieve my dream of becoming a doctor.” With more than $40,000 raised, she won’t be the only one benefiting from such a lovely event.
