Twilight at the Zoo

If non-stop music, food and drink is your kind of party, you probably already know about the Cleveland Zoological Society’s “Twilight at the Zoo.” For the uninitiated, let’s just say it’s a summertime blast with more than 7,000 of your closest friends, and this year’s version, number 15, was one of the best.
The 700 VIPs got an hour’s head-start on the fun, plus their own special spot to enjoy cocktails, great music by The Madison Crawl and delicious food by Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Carrabba’s Italian Grill. At 7 p.m., all the party animals were let loose throughout the park to enjoy 14 local bands, hearty hors d’oeuvres at various locations and, of course, all the beer, wine and “Hard Twisted Tea” they wanted. (Don’t worry, coffee was available at the end of the evening. And some people who planned ahead even had limos and buses to get them home safely).
Threatened rainstorms stayed away until at least midnight; the evening was, in fact, perfect for strolling the zoo grounds; taking a look at the sea lions, tigers and giraffes; and enjoying one of the most beautiful attractions in Cleveland. The dress code ranged from sundresses and heels to very casual cut-offs and rock band T-shirts. But the all-adult crowd (no one under 21, and IDs were, indeed, checked) didn’t care; this was a night for FUN! Thanks to ticket sell-outs and a generous raffle, the Cleveland Zoological Society could take pride in reaching its pachyderm-sized $450,000 goal…and that ain’t peanuts! STORY BY LINDA McMULLEN.
