United Way of Greater Cleveland “Annual Meeting”

United Way of Greater Cleveland hosted its annual meeting to a crowd of more than 1,100 people at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel.

United Way President and CEO Bill Kitson acknowledged elected officials present including Mayor Frank Jackson and Cuyahoga County Executive Ed Fitzgerald, both of whom offered brief remarks. Paul Clark, succeeded by Rick Buoncore as UW board of directors chairman, presented Eleanor Steigman the Spirit of Giving Award in recognition of her 50 years as a United Way volunteer. Robin C. Cottingham, Community Impact Cabinet chairman, received the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Ira Kaplan, Pat Pastore and Terry Stewart, chairmen of the 2013 United Way Campaign, announced that $40.6 million was raised, the second highest amount in five years, from contributions from more than 80,000 donors.

According to Mr. Kitson, United Way’s new Community Impact Agenda specifically will focus on children succeeding in school, families and individuals achieving and maintaining financial stability and a healthy community. The new agenda, said Mr. Kitson, “ensures our collective resources are effectively targeted where needed most to drive sustainable impact and change in our community.”
