The Somewhere in Time fundraiser for the Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHS) drew more than 230 supporters to its University Circle home. Board member, Grovie Cooley, was the benefit chair.
This year’s benefit had a 1970s theme. The invitation suggested period attire, and almost all of the guests got into the fun. Others drew inspiration for their attire from different hallmarks of the era, such as “Star Wars,” “Happy Days” and “The Godfather.” It was like Halloween for adults!
VIP guests arrived at 6 p.m. for cocktails and dinner, during which WRHS president and CEO, Dr. Gainor Davis, introduced the evening’s honorary chair, Henry “Hank” LoConti. He founded the iconic Agora Ballroom and made it the epicenter of the rock ’n roll scene in Cleveland. A video screen showed footage of rock bands performing at the Agora Ballroom in the 1970s — Todd Rundgren, David Bowie, Meat Loaf, Tanya Tucker and more.
The main party kicked-off at 8 p.m. Dance lessons demonstrations were provided by the Get Hep Dance Company. Sandra and Scott Emerick of Twinsburg won the prize for best dancers. There were 1970s drinks, delicious snacks and food provided by Marigold Caterers.
Somewhere in Time netted more than $46,000 with proceeds to be used to support the organization’s educational and community outreach programs. Founded in 1867, Western Reserve Historical Society is the oldest cultural institution in Northeast Ohio. For more information, visit STORY BY CAROLINE R. MERK/PHOTOGRAPHS BY ROBERT MULLER
